GitCompiler

A seamless, browser-based execution environment and code editor.

GitCompiler

Overview

GitCompiler delivers a native IDE experience directly within your web browser. Engineered for speed and simplicity, it provides an instantly available sandbox to write, compile, and execute code in real-time without any local environment configuration. It natively supports execution for Python, JavaScript, Java, C, and C++.

What I Did

Built the front-end interface using Vanilla JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Integrated the Monaco Editor for a class-leading syntax highlighting and intelligent coding experience. Implemented Golden Layout to manage a multi-pane, distraction-free workspace. Hooked up the Judge0 API for remote code compilation and execution.

Technical Decisions

Opted for a purely static architecture (HTML, CSS, Vanilla JS) for maximum speed and simplicity, eliminating the need for a complex build step. Chose Monaco Editor for its robust VS Code-like features, and Judge0 API because it provides a reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure for remote code execution.

What I Learned

Gained experience in integrating complex third-party tools like the Monaco Editor (the engine powering VS Code) and Golden Layout into a raw DOM environment. Learned how to manage asynchronous remote code execution and handle output streams using the Judge0 API.
